Senior Citizens' lunch - 2015

Waiting for the soup...
Monday 19th January was supposedly ‘blue Monday’ the name given to the third Monday of January and, purportedly, the most depressing day of the year. Many people do feel down at this time of year following all the festivities (and stress) of last month – so Holsworthy & District Lions have, for many years now, hosted a senior citizens’ lunch at the end of January. Something to look forward to.

This year’s lunch took place on Saturday 24th January. The Lions invited 120 of the older members of the community to attend a three-course lunch in the Memorial Hall in Holsworthy. In the end, only 104 of the guests could attend – but they all enjoyed the soup, roast beef dinner, and apple pie & ice-cream served up by the Lions – along with a free drink from the bar. There was also live music provided and a sing-along of some old favourites after lunch had finished.

Fourteen members of Holsworthy & District Lions turned up to help prepare and serve lunch (along with wives and kids). Just about two-thirds of those Lions were old enough to qualify for the senior citizens’ lunch themselves!
