Lions support local youth sports
At their March social meeting Holsworthy & District Lions donated a cheque for £500 to help with the refurbishment of the sports pavilion in Stanhope Park in Holsworthy. The refurbished pavilion will retain the original Victorian stone building as its centrepiece and will be the home for Holsworthy Youth Football and Holsworthy Cricket Clubs, who both currently play in Stanhope Park. It will help them to carry out their objective to increase participation in youth football and cricket, as well as providing facilities to form new girls’ and women’s football teams. Once completed, it will also provide excellent changing and meeting facilities for other users of the Park. The project will take just over a year to complete and is being funded by Holsworthy Town Council, Torridge District Council, the Football Foundation, the English Cricket Board and a local crowd funding project. The cheque was presented by Lions President David Smith to Steve Ivey and Lyndon Piper. Also present were Lions Brian Withal, Jeff Wyatt, Peter Brown, Richard Hutchings and Bret Kingston.
