Lions help with Philippines typhoon relief

In the past few weeks Holsworthy & District Lions have put up the Christmas trees in the town square, provided a BBQ at the town’s Christmas lighting up ceremony, and donated money to the Holsworthy branch of the RNLI and the St Peter’s Fair Committee. In the next few weeks the Lions will be hosting the annual children’s Christmas party in the Memorial Hall and giving away soup on the late night Christmas shopping evening.
However, Lions President Ray Fursdon is keen that people don’t see the Lions as only a local organisation. Holsworthy & District Lions is just one of thousands of Lions clubs throughout the world and each club offers help and support to the other clubs whenever possible. Club Secretary Andy Townsend reported at their last meeting that the Lions Clubs International Foundation donated US$ 500,000 to the relief fund set up following Typhoon Haiyan within 24 hours of the disaster occurring. He also noted that, to date, more than $1 million has been donated by LCIF. Holsworthy & District Lions unanimously voted to contribute £200 to the on-going relief effort.
