It’s official - Lions to run this year’s carnival

Handover... thumbnailHandover...
Friday 27th June saw the official handover to the new Carnival Committee. The former committee of Ron Ellacot (President), Wendy Rogers (Secretary) and John Rogers (Chairman) handed over approximately 15 inches worth of paperwork and their best wishes to the new Carnival Committee Chairman Ray Fursdon of Holsworthy & District Lions at the White Hart Hotel in Holsworthy.

The Lions will be running the carnival for the first time this year and, although a few changes are in the pipeline, the plan is pretty much to carry on as usual. One change for this November is that the parade will take a slightly different route – starting from the industrial estate for floats and from the football ground for walkers.

The other main change in the pipeline is to combine the children’s afternoon parade and the main parade in the evening. The children’s entries will be judged at the football ground in the evening and will lead off the main parade through the town. The new Fairy Queen will be crowned before the parade gets underway.

Lion Ray Fursdon thanked the previous Carnival Committee for all of their hard work over the past few years and said that any queries concerning this year’s carnival should be addressed to the new carnival Committee Secretary, Ted England, or to himself.
