On Sunday 5 October, Holsworthy & District Lions provided a BBQ at the “Colour Me happy” fun-run in Stanhope Park in Holsworthy. The fun-run was organised by North Devon Hospice to raise money to help build an outreach centre in Holsworthy which will be called ‘The Long House’. The Long House will provide care and support to the people of Holsworthy and the surrounding areas without the need to take the 2+ hour round trip to the current hospice base in Barnstaple.

The fun-run was a well-attended event and the Lions raised just over £500 on the day. Last Wednesday – 10 December – the Lions donated the money raised to the Long House Appeal itself. Immediate Past President Ray Fursdon met with Jenny Richardson of the Long House Appeal in the grounds of Holsworthy Medical Centre where work on the new building has just started. Ray said that the Lions were very happy to donate the money raised back to the Long House Appeal: “the whole point of the Lions is to raise money to help fund and support local people and organisations in the Holsworthy area – and this is just one of the many worthy causes we have helped in 2014”.
