Bags of Money!

On 5th October this year, large retailers in England were obliged to charge at least 5 pence for single-use carrier bags. The charge was introduced for retailers who employ more than 250 full-time employees.

The Store & Post Office in Week St Mary certainly doesn’t qualify as a large retailer for the purposes of the new regulations. But, despite this, long-time Week St Mary Post Master – and member of Holsworthy & District Lions – Jeff Roberts, introduced a completely voluntary charge of 5 pence for single-use carrier bags when the new regulations came into effect.

At their social meeting on 15th October, Jeff presented Holsworthy & District Lions with just over £30 – all the money having been donated by customers of the Week St Mary Store & Post Office.

Lions’ President Brian Withall thanked Jeff, and the community of Week St Mary, for their generosity.
