Lions donate “a drop in the ocean”
Friends of Bude Sea Pool On 1st June Holsworthy & District Lions donated £500 to Friends of Bude sea Pool. Bude Sea Pool was built in the 1930s but all public funding was withdrawn in 2010. The Friends of Bude Sea Pool fought a vigorous campaign in 2011 to keep the pool open for the season, and took on its management in 2012. ‘FoBSP’ is a local charity that has to raise more than £30,000 each year just to keep the pool open.
Club President Brian Withall said: “Holsworthy & District Lions have made a great effort in the past few years to help charities and other good causes in the Bude area, and the Lions have been well-supported by many organisations in Bude, especially with regard to our annual Easter egg draw. As that is the case, it is particularly satisfying to be able to make a donation of £500 to the Friends of Bude sea Pool, even though that is only a drop in the ocean compared to what is needed. The Sea Pool is much-loved by locals and tourists alike, and Holsworthy & District Lions and I wish them all success in the coming years”.
